“Smoking is injurious to health”, this sentence we often hear. This is written on the packers of cigarettes and other narcotics. But still people do not stop buying and selling them.

NO SMOKING DAY is celebrated on the second wednesday of march every year. This day is celebrated to make people aware about the hazards of smoking and help them to quit and say NO to smoking.

No Smoking Day was first celebrated in 1984 in the United Kingdom on the day of  Ash Wednesday. This day is celebrated to tell people that smoking not only kills you but also your family and loved ones.

Each and every year No Smoking Day promotes smokers to give up their smoking habit. It helps smokers who want to quit smoking and also to raise awareness about the health effects of smoking in daily life.

No smoking means a no smoking sign in a place is a notice to say that smoking is prohibited in that place or area. The harmful effects of smoking are injurious to health. It causes breathing problems, lungs cancer and pollutes our environment. No Smoking Day awareness movement was first started in 1984 in the United Kingdom.

The No Smoking Day celebration only focuses on the smokers who quit smoking.

This is a big opportunity for the smokers to say NO to cigarettes. For the smokers it is not easy to leave smoking,but it is not impossible.

This day is celebrated to encourage smokers to quit on smoking and tell them the harmful effects of smoking.

SECONDHAND SMOKE:

Secondhand Smoke is more harmful than smoking. The non-smokers are also in danger from secondhand smoke. 

Secondhand Smoke is a combination of the smoke that comes from burning of the cigarettes and the smoke that is exhaled by the smokers.

There are two types of secondhand smoking. First is sidestream smoke and the second is mainstream smoke. Side stream smoke comes directly from the burning of the cigarettes. Mainstream smoke is the smoke that the smoker inhales.

The non-smokers who are exposed to the smokers regularly can face effects of smoking. The body of that non smoker absorbs the Narcotine and other harmful narcotic substances. 

  • If you are exposed to secondhand smoking for more than 5 minutes then, it will lead to stiffening the aorta.
  • If you are exposed for 20-30 minutes then, it will cause excess of blood clotting, and increase the risk of heart attack and strokes.
  • If you are exposed to secondhand smoking for more than 2 hours then, it will lead to an increased chance of irregular heart beating and may lead to heart attack.

If you are regularly coming in exposure to secondhand smoking then, it will lead to very harmful conditions. Such as lung cancer,lung disease,chronic bronchitis,heart disease,eye and nasal irritation and increased risk of sinus and respiratory infections.

If you want to avoid secondhand smoking then you should start it from today. 

  • If you are visiting someone’s house who is a smoker then, you should try to socialize outside whenever possible.
  • Don’t keep Ashtrays at your home.
  • If smoking is allowed at your work place then you should ask your employees and your boss to change this policy and tell them about the effects of secondhand smoking and smoking.
  • If at any public place you find any smoker then try to stay as far as possible from that smoker.
  • Ask your neighbours and others smokers to smoke as far as possible from you.

WAYS TO QUIT ON SMOKING:

 If you really want to give up on smoking then, this is the best day for this. Quitting smoking is so easy but it is not so tough. If you will try you can quit smoking. Here are some ways that can help you in leaving smoking.

  • Try nicotine replacement therapy
  • Avoid triggers
  • Delay
  • Chew on it
  • Don’t have just one 
  • Practise relaxation techniques
  • Remind yourself the benefits
  • Do some exercise

TRY NARCOTINE REPLACEMENT THERAPY:

Ask your doctor to give you nicotine replacement therapy. This therapy will help you to give up on smoking.

AVOID TRIGGERS:

Identify your trigger situations,that could be in a bar or in parties you should avoid them. Plan for something else and don’t lose your will power.

DELAY:

It will definitely happen to you that you feel a need to smoke, then just do one thing ask yourself to wait for ten minutes and in those ten minutes try to distract yourself for two hours.

CHEW ON IT:

You should try to eat sugarless gums,etc to avoid smoking by giving your mouth something as a replacement for cigarettes.

DON’T HAVE JUST ONE:

 If it will happen to you, let just have one,only one,just a last time. Then you should not lose your will power and say NO i will not do this.

PRACTISE RELAXATION TECHNIQUES:

You should try to do relaxation techniques. Because when you will take a step for leaving smoking you will have to face anxiety and consciousness. For that only relaxation techniques are helpful for you.

REMIND YOURSELF THE BENEFITS:

If at any instant you feel that i can’t give up on smoking and i want to smoke. Just do one thing to remind yourself of the benefits of leaving cigarettes and smoking.

DO SOME EXERCISE:

Exercise is the best therapy for curing any disease. If you are feeling conscious and you are losing your will power then do some exercise and do meditation for sometime.

This NO SMOKING DAY we hope that you will give up on smoking and make people aware about the hazards of smoking and encourage them to leave smoking.
