National unity day was introduced by Indian Prime Minister Mr. Narendra Modi on 31 October 2014.  We also called it RASHTIYA EKTA DIWAS. This auspicious day is celebrating the birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel who is the “Iron Man of India”. 

The main aim of this day is to give tribute to the iron man for his hard work in unity of India. On this day a marathon is organized by our prime minister to increase unity in our country. Apart from this government organizes many programs at public places like run for unity, pledge taking ceremony, short films, dramas etc. and mostly run for the unity is organized in rural areas, towns, and cities.

 Many students, workers, senior citizens and mostly youth are interested in these programmes. Some events are organized by the companies which are pledge taking ceremonies to observe taking pledge in groups.


On this day various events are organized in India to accommodate Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel a famous personality for uniting India and the first home minister of India. At the Patel Chowk, Parliament Street, New Delhi, on this day floral tribute is given to the statue of Sardar Patel. Apart from this various programs are held on this day such as

  • Run for unity program is organized in various cities and towns of India.
  • A pledge taking ceremony was held by the Indian police.
  • A march past by the police,central armed police forces, scouts, guides, NCC, NSS, home guards, etc on the streets of the cities and district towns.
  • A rally is organized by different schools,colleges and universities with banners and posters of the iron man of India.
  • Essay writing, speech reciting, quiz competition, paintings, rhyme recitation, art making competition, debate on the related topic, etc are organized by the schools and colleges.
  • Events are organized to spread the importance of unity in maintaining peace, keeping public places clean, security, removing threats, etc in the country.


Statue of unity is situated in Gujrat. The statue of sardar vallabh bhai patel’s statue is known as the statue of unity. The project was first announced in 2010. The Indian sculptor Ram V. Sutar designed the sculptor of this statue.

 In October 2013, the construction was  started by Larsen & Toubro. The contract was of  Rs 2,989 crore given by the Govt of Gujarat. The statue of unity is located at the shore of the Narmada River facing the Sardar Sarovar Dam. On October 31, 2018, the Indian Prime Minister Mr.Narendra Modi inaugurated the statue of unity on the 143rd birth anniversary of Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel.

  • This is about four times taller than the statue of liberty.
  • The steel structure is 5,700 tons.
  •  There are approximately 12,000 bronze panels covering the structure, weighing around 1,700 tons.
  • This statue is located 125 miles from the capital of gujrat, Ahmedabad.
  • about 2.5 million visitors every year come to visit here.
  • The statue’s height surpasses the Spring Temple Buddha in Henan, China, which, at 420 feet was previously the tallest statue in the world.
  • From China more than 2,000 Indian workers along with several hundred laborers contributed in the construction of this statue.


Sardar Vallabh bhai patel was born on 31 October 1875. His full name is Vallabhbhai Jhaverbhai Patel. He studied in the primary school at Karamsad and high school at Petlad. He got married at the age of 16 only. He set up an independent office of district leader in Godhara in the year 1900. 

He was a lawyer by profession. In 1908 his wife passed away and left his son and daughter to him. He is also called the iron man of India.because he was a straight spoken person who is supposed to respect the opinion of the people who disagree with him. Sardar Patel played an important role in the selection of members of the drafting committee.

He played a big role in founding Indian Administrative Service and the Indian Police Service. He is also known as the “Patron Saint” of India’s services. The statue of Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel’s statue is called the statue of unity because he believed and respected the unity of the Indian people who collectively fought for independence.


Sardar Vallabh Bhai Patel is not only an Indian nationalist but he is also a great motivator and inspired many Indians and the youth of the nation. Here we have mentioned some of his motivations and Inspiring thoughts that inspired many people and will also inspire and motivate you.

  • Every Indian should now forget that he is a Rajput, a Sikh or a Jaat.
  • Little pools of water tend to become stagnant and useless, but if they are joined together to form a big lake the atmosphere is cooled and there is universal benefit.


India is a diverse country. There are many different cultures, religions and languages. In India over 1650 spoken languages and dialects. But still India is a great example of unity. People always love,respect and each other in every situation.

The first prime minister of India Jawahar Lal Nehru said that India has many different states and religions but it has the same brotherhood and love for each other.

“Peace is not unity in similarity but unity in diversity, in the comparison and conciliation of differences.”
