Happy International Day for Rural Women 2021

“Feminism isn’t about making women stronger. Women are already strong, it’s about changing the way the world perceives that strength.” 

This day is celebrated on October 15th. As per we all know that women and girls play a Vital role towards household improving livelihoods etc. women give a contribution towards food security and natural resources management etc.

This day was for the first time celebrated on 15th of October 2008.  This day was established by the General Assembly in its resolution 62/136 of 18 December 2007. 

 Many girls and women are suffering from the problem of poverty. Different themes are decided to celebrate the day in IT sectors. Women are developing and proving that they are not weak. Many schemes are also launched by the government for rural women so that they can decrease poverty level.

RURAL WOMEN

Rural womens are the women of rural areas. They play a vital role in economic and social change. They help in protecting the environment.

EMPOWERING RURAL WOMEN

Empowerment of rural women is important. The empowerment of women is of different types. 

  1. Social empowerment.
  2. Educational empowerment.
  3. Economic empowerment.
  4. Physiological empowerment.
  5. Political empowerment.

SOCIAL EMPOWERMENT:

Social empowerment of rural women is about strengthening the social relationship and position of rural women in the society. Social empowerment also fights back against discrimination, no longer letting people of different disabilities, races, religions, or genders.

EDUCATIONAL EMPOWERMENT:

Educational empowerment focuses on the educational rights of the rural womens. Education can bring many women’s self-confidence, self-esteem, and make girls self-sufficient.

ECONOMIC EMPOWERMENT:

Economic empowerment is a must for women. The economic condition should be good for education,food,etc. The resources are very important for everyone and for resources you need money.

PHYSIOLOGICAL EMPOWERMENT:

Physiological empowerment is also important for the rural womens. Physiological empowerment helps to  build self-confidence, help women recognize their self-worth, and gives them the chance to take control of their income and body.

POLITICAL EMPOWERMENT:

Political empowerment is also an important aspect for the rural womens. The rural womens should get empowered politically. Rural womens should go for political field.

CHALLENGES FACED BY THE RURAL WOMEN

Rural women’s life is not so easy. They have to face many problems and challenges in their lives. Here we have written some of them for you.

  1. No access to education
  2. Gender discrimination
  3. Lack of sanitation
  4. Child marriage
  5. Domestic violence
  6. Dowry
  7. Lack of medical care

NO ACCESS TO EDUCATION:

The rural womens and girls do not get proper education. They are not allowed to go out of the house and not in the school. Education is a must for today’s era, and womens should be educated for the betterment of the future.

GENDER DISCRIMINATION:

Gender discrimination is a big issue for the rural womens. They are not treated equal to the men. People think that they are only meant for household work. They could never be equal to men. They should get equal rights as the mens.

LACK OF SANITATION:

The biggest challenge faced by the rural womens is lack of proper sanitation facilities. They do not get even the basic sanitation. The result is diseases caused by it.  They do not get clean water and toilets and other sanitation facilities.

CHILD MARRIAGE:

Child marriage is like a strain in the society. The rural womens face this. They forcefully have to get married in their childhood. The child brides have to face many problems. They have to face  many problems in their adulthood.

DOMESTIC VIOLENCE:

The rural womens have to face domestic violence by their family. They are not treated well. They do not even say a word against domestic violence. They need to fight for this.

DOWRY:

Dowry is also a challenge faced by the rural womens. If their family can not provide the dowry then they are treated like a criminal in their in-laws house by their in-laws. This is a punishable offence according to the constitution. But still people do not fight against it.

LACK OF MEDICAL CARE:

The rural womens do not get proper medical care and facilities. They get problems during their pregnancies and periods. The lack of medical care leads to many serious problems for them.

RURAL WOMEN ENTREPRENEURS

Apart from facing all these problems some rural womens have proved themselves and fight for their rights and equality. Here we have listed some names of the rural womens who started their own entrepreneurship.

GUNAVATHY CHANDRASEKARAN:

She is from Tamil Nadu. she is a 41-year-old. She survived a polio attack when she was just two-years-old, Gunavathy was considered less capable, and was married off at 16. She made a brand Guna’s Quilling, she sells quilled art work such as wall art, greeting cards, miniature figurines, jewellery, and much more.

GODAVARI SATPUTE:

She is a thirty eight years old lady. She is from Nari village,Maharashtra. In 2009 she founded a paper lamp manufacturing business which is named Godavari Akashkandil. She works for rural women empowerment.

SOBITA TAMULI:

She is a thirty five years old woman. She is from Telana village in Assam. She made a women self-help group that manufactures and sells organic manure. They also make traditional Assamese japis, and sell them.

PABIBEN RABARI:

She is from gujrat. She runs an enterprise called Pabiben.com, that focuses on empowering women artisans. The women in this enterprise make bags, durries, files, quilts, cushion covers,etc.  

ANITA GUPTA:

She is from Arrah  Bihar. In 1993, she founded Bhojpur Mahila Kala Kendra. This helps women in education and employment. She gives the women education and trains them for employment.
