It is believed that if people observe fast during the celebration Goddess Durga blesses them with everything they need. People observe fast and  worship goddess Durga’s different avatars and awake for the nine nights and sing bhajans and aarti of Maa Durga  during the nine nights and days  of the navratri celebration to get all the blessings of goddess durga.  The Navratri celebration starts with KALASH STHAPANA  on Ekadashi. After the kalash sthapana people worship goddess durga and offer food, fruits and sweets to her and chant mantras and aarti of her.
